Don't cheat yourself.
We know that the path to success is hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. But in truth, and despite many motivational quotes to the contrary, life is far too complex and busy to take this approach to all we do. For most things, an "OK" or a "pretty good" job is good enough. This is not to condone laziness, merely to separate and acknowledge what is REALLY important to us and focus our attention on that, and to not pretend we are working hard on things that we are not. I find this liberating. We all have our own values, our own ambitions and our own desires. Let's pursue those, focus on the things that matter, and admit to ourselves the things that don't. But let's not kid ourselves about what's what.
